The American Medical Association & Gun Control

Toward a Safer World by 2040: The JAMA Summit Report on Reducing Firearm Violence and Harms
This report is dumb, soft-headed, and filled with the touchy-feely, woo-woo misinformation and misdirection one would expect from Giffords or Everytown. But it’s from the American Medical Association (AMA). If you are interested in reality-based ideas for actually reducing violence, We Already Have Gun Violence Solutions. They Just Won’t Listen. Unlike the AMA, this report presents real solutions to actual problems absent the underlying goal of eventually disarming all law-abiding citizens. Now for the AMA.
Having shown repeatedly during the Covid pandemic (by getting behind dubious medical and non-medical inteventions which turned out to far less effective - even useless - but frequently much more harmful, than claimed) that it knows little about medicine or even science, the AMA is now committed to proving it knows nothing about guns, civil rights, violence, crime, criminology, sociopathy or much of anything else.
Here is their vision:
The vision for 2040 is a country where firearm violence is substantially reduced and where all people and communities report feeling safe from firearm harms.
Feeling safe. No serious study about social problems has ever been based on feelings. No serious policy effort has ever achieved a meaningful outcome based feelings. In fact, very little of use at any point in human history has come about because of feelings.
The sanctimonious, self-important academics, bureaucrats, and “experts” joining the AMA don’t want to put too much focus on being objectively more safe from violence because that’s really hard. Nor do they want too much focus on materially reducing overall violence or criminal acts because they don’t actually know anything about that. They can’t focus too much on improving mental illness outcomes because that’s gonna require examining our failed “mental health system” - taking a hard look in the mirror and addressing how doctors contribute to the problem. No looking into the medical problem of SSRIs and their relation to mass violence. No time spent studying the medical problem of TBI and it’s effect on suicides. No no. None of that. Just feelings. That’s what we’re after folks - “the feels.” Feeling safe from guns. Like feeling safe from Covid because you wrapped a bandana around your face. It’s the bandana that matters. Everything else is secondary.
The AMA has never been about improving medicine, or health or doctors. Since its founding in the mid-1800s it has always been, and will always be, about money and the control of doctors. It’s main goals seem to be setting the political agenda for “Medicine” and to keep the great middling mass of doctors in line around said agenda. As one of the Top 5 or 6 lobbying organizations in America, the AMA frequently makes political pronouncements on the latest progressive causes it supports. It is less and less relevant to Americans as the years pass. It has supported efforts to restrict doctors, restrict treatments, restrict access to education, yet has brought little benefit to the average citizen. This new vision for 2040 didn’t change that.
